Since 1982, Big Brothers Big Sisters has been changing the way children grow up in Santa Cruz County. By exposing children to new opportunities, volunteer mentors show that options exist, no matter how difficult the child’s situation or life experience is currently. Big Brothers Big Sisters’ services have been proven effective.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Santa Cruz County evaluates it’s One-to-One Mentoring Program annuallythroughtout the life of the match by the use of evaluation tools designed specifically for our program. These tools measure the effectiveness and quality of our services.
We also conduct evaluations of our after-school enrichment and mentoring program participants and their parent every six months.

According to the Carnegie Council on Adolescent Development, at-risk children who have succeeded academically and have positive peer and family releationships have been found to have one adult other then the parent whom they could turn to for support and guidance.
A majority of alumni (62%) perceive to have achieved a higher level of success than their peers that were not involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
